Expertise

“It is our choices… that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

J.K. Rowling
WHO AM I?

Jodi Zentner

I am a psychologist with 30+ years experience, having worked in hospitals (The Douglas Hospital, The Montreal Children’s Hospital), schools (The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board), private practice, as well as Employment Assistance Programs. I gained experience in various different environments and with a variety of clients.

Academically, I have pursued a Bachelor in Psychology, a Masters in Counselling Psychology and have all but a dissertation towards my Ph.D. Affiliations include l’Ordre des Psychologues du Quebec (OPQ), The College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO), l’Association des Psychologues du Quebec (APQ), Ontario Psychological Association (OPA) and the Canadian ADHD Resource Alliance (CADDRA).

WHO ARE YOU?

YOU

You are someone who is seeking support, guidance, and counsel. You want to be understood emotionally through non-judgment and empathy. You are seeking answers to whatever experience is negatively affecting you at this period of your life. Perhaps, it is clinical, an issue that may require a diagnosis, or a need for some insight into human behaviour, whether it be yours or another.

Do not question whether your problem warrants psychological counsel. If you are reading this, it is because you are in distress and have begun your journey towards improving your circumstances. Your feelings ALWAYS count!

My Work

How Can I Help?

There are various clinical interventions that I use depending on the nature of the presented issue. Using an Insight Oriented/Psychodynamic approach can be helpful in being able to have a better grasp of your past experiences and how they have shaped your present.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) gets its name from its goals, accept what is out of your personal control and commit to taking action that enriches your life. It is an approach that uses mindful and behavioural change strategies to increase psychological flexibility. The aim of ACT is to help you with experiencing the life that you desire, while accepting the pain that it will inevitably bring.

Education is an important part of the work I do. I believe you can be, and need to be, a participant in the therapeutic process as you head towards improvement. Educating you on what is occurring or what your symptoms suggest, increase the likelihood of you generalizing the therapy experience to aid you in the future.

A systems orientation therapeutic approach allows us to look at the interaction with your family of origin as well as your present family or partner. This dynamic can enable us to possibly understand the root of your behaviour within that milieu.
