Jodi Zentner, Psychologist

Who am I?

I am a psychologist who has been licensed since 1990 with over 25 years of clinical experience. Having worked in hospitals (The Douglas Hospital, The Children’s Hospital), schools (The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board),  private practice, as well as two Employment Assistance Programs (Ceridian Lifeworks and ComPsych), I gained experience in various different environments and with a variety of clients

Academically I have pursued a Bachelor in Psychology, a Masters in Counselling Psychology and have all but a dissertation towards my Ph.D. Affiliations include l’Ordre des Psychologues du Quebec, l’Association des Psychologues du Quebec, and the Canadian ADHD Resource Alliance.

In my practice I bring both professional and personal perspective to be able to offer my best in helping to improve your well being whether it be clinical or just dealing with the stressors life can sometimes present.

Who are you?

You are someone who is seeking support, guidance, and counsel. You want to be understood emotionally through non-judgment and empathy. You are seeking answers to whatever experience is negatively affecting you at this period of your life. Perhaps, it is clinical, an issue that may require a diagnosis, or a need for some insight into human behaviour, whether it be yours or another.

Do not question whether your problem warrants psychological counsel. If you are reading this, it is because you are in distress and have begun your journey towards improving your circumstances. Your feelings ALWAYS count!

HOW CAN I HELP?

My approach is eclectic; it is varied and depends on what will work best for you. Using an Insight Oriented/Psychodynamic medium can be helpful if you would like to be able to have a better grasp of your past experiences and how they have shaped your present.

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy is widely used due to its effectiveness and support it has received when it has been reviewed in research. The basic premise is, if you can change the way you perceive and respond to a situation then you can possibly change the way you feel.

Education is an important part of the work I do. I believe you can be, and need to be, a participant in the therapeutic process as you head towards improvement. Educating you on what is occurring or what your symptoms suggest, increase the likelihood of you generalizing the therapy experience to aid you in the future.

A systems orientation therapeutic approach allows us to look at the interaction with your family of origin as well as your present family or partner. This dynamic can enable us to possibly understand the root of your behaviour within that milieu.
